When Choosing a Teapot, What Should You Pay Attention To?
One of the pleasures of tea drinking is selecting the materials used for the job. In Turkish culture, tea is served in slender glass cups rather than thick-walled ones. Hence, when we think of tea in this region, thin-walled glass cups come to mind.
However, when it comes to selecting a teapot, the situation is a bit different because the choice of teapot is crucial for a good cup of tea. First, determine the size of teapot you need, then consider the material selection. There are multiple options available, but deciding which one is best for you is more important.
Glass
Glass teapots are quite healthy as they do not contain any toxic substances or components. In terms of convenience, the fact that they can be washed in the dishwasher and are transparent are advantages of using glass teapots. The only drawback of making your tea in a glass teapot is that glass cannot retain heat for long periods, so your tea cools down more quickly. You can overcome this by using candle warmers. Two important warnings: Do not put glass teapots in the refrigerator while they are very hot, and do not use them on the stove to heat them.
Ceramic
Ceramic teapots were first used about 11,000 years ago in Asia and the Middle East. Clay and earthenware vessels allow plants to steep easily due to their natural heat retention properties and the fact that they do not leak liquid easily. Check whether the inside of your ceramic teapot is glazed. If it is glazed, you can try different teas with the same teapot; if it is unglazed, we recommend using it for only one type of tea.
Porcelain
Porcelain, with a history dating back to around 4000 BC, was first identified in China. Porcelain is a type of ceramic composed of white clay. All types of porcelain contain the mineral kaolin, which harbors some metals such as alkali metals and aluminum. Porcelain has many features that distinguish it from other ceramic types, such as having a dense white color, being semi-transparent, and being quite hard. If you want to achieve harmony in your kitchen, porcelain and ceramic teapots can be found in a wide variety of colors and designs on the market. Additionally, they are quite healthy and retain heat better compared to glass, keeping your tea warmer for longer.
Steel Teapots
The most popular type of teapot is undoubtedly steel teapots. Although not as good at retaining heat as cast iron teapots, they have quite good heat retention and conduction capacities and are suitable for heating on the stove. Additionally, they are quite sturdy, long-lasting, and resistant to corrosion. Steel teapots can also be found in many different colors and models on the market to match your kitchen.
Enamel
Enamel pots, oven dishes, and teapots, often adorned with floral patterns that our grandmothers used and that we remember from our childhood, have become popular again in recent years. Enamel teapots, which are actually a good option for brewing tea, are not only healthy but also very practical due to the variety of colors and different patterns available.
