The Willow Tree and Natural Healing

After much indecision about this week's blog topic, we stumbled upon a quote on Pinterest that changed the direction of this article: “Be like the willow. Easy to bend but not easy to break.”

The Philosophical Meaning of the Willow Tree

This quote can also metaphorically reference the fact that one of the most widely used medicines, aspirin, is derived from the willow tree. To be like the willow means to be flexible and adaptable to circumstances while remaining open to learning at any age.

Aging and Openness to Learning

You’ve likely heard the saying, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” While this is true for many trees, it doesn’t apply to the willow. While the adage suggests that people are more open to new ideas and corrections when they are younger, the willow symbolizes individuals who remain open to criticism, advice, and new perspectives throughout life.

The Healing Properties of the Willow Tree

The willow represents a person who is open to growth and change at any age. Large, rigid trees often fall, leaving behind an empty space that new saplings eventually fill. The adaptable and flexible willow, however, remains standing and watches the fallen around it.

Aspirin’s Journey and the Willow

You may have heard that aspirin is derived from the willow tree. Imagine the journey of aspirin, from ancient caves to the pharmacies of modern airports. Interestingly, the willow tree has even journeyed to the moon and outer space, as aspirin was part of the Apollo astronauts' inventory.

Willow and Alternative Medicine

The willow’s uses extend beyond pain relief or malaria treatment. In Bach flower therapy, it is believed that the vibrations of the willow can aid in healing various psychological conditions.

The Willow in Turkish Culture

In cultural history, the willow has been a symbol of shelter and protection. Communities and tents were often established under its shade, and its presence offered solace during both physical and emotional challenges.

Lazika and the Willow

We contemplated how to incorporate the healing properties of the willow tree. While we decided against producing aspirin, we are excited to announce that the willow will be a part of our new blends. With this blog, we’re happy to share this news and invite you to experience the willow’s unique essence in our teas.
