Willow. Fortune Flower.
Willow Tree and Natural Healing
After much indecision about the topic of this week's blog post, a quote we came across on Pinterest changed the fate of this article: “Be like the willow. Easy to bend but not easy to break.” In other words, “Be like a willow tree. Easily bendable, but not easily broken.”
The Philosophical Meaning of the Willow Tree
This saying can also be used metaphorically to refer to the fact that aspirin, one of the most widely used medicines worldwide, is made from willow. To be like a willow means to have a flexible structure that adapts to conditions, and to be open to learning at any age.
Aging and Openness to Learning
You've probably heard the proverb, "A tree is bent while it is young." Most trees are bent while they are young. But this isn't true for willows. This proverb, which expresses that people are more open to new ideas, learning, and correcting their mistakes at a young age, is quite accurate. However, we observe that great and proud people sometimes fall into a series of mistakes, adding one mistake after another to avoid admitting they've made a mistake.
The Healing Aspects of the Willow Tree
The willow tree represents a person of all ages who is open to criticism, advice, and new perspectives. Large, upright trees fall. Space fills their place, new saplings sprout from where they fell, and the fallen tree is forgotten. The willow, however, adaptable and flexible, observes the fallen from its place.
The Journey of Aspirin and the Willow
You may have heard that aspirin is made from the raw materials of the willow tree… It’s quite amusing to imagine aspirin’s journey from caves to pharmacies in the most modern airports. And let’s not forget that willow also went to the Moon and into space on the Apollo spacecraft. (Aspirin was also in the astronauts’ inventory.)
Willow and Alternative Medicine
The use of willow trees has not been limited to pain relief or malaria treatment. Research has suggested that the vibrations emitted by willow can be used in Bach flower remedies to alleviate various psychological disorders.
Willow and Turkish Culture
In our cultural history and in the universal history of humanity, the willow has served as a protective and nurturing tree, offering shelter under its shade. Villages and tents were erected in its vicinity. Its shade was sought after during times of physical and emotional distress.
Lazika and Sofut
We considered how we could benefit from the healing properties of the willow tree. Of course, we didn't decide to make aspirin. We just wanted to announce via this blog that we will be including willow in our new blends.
