Good tea is a matter of design . Not all natural tea is good.
If you don't know how tea gets from the soil to your cup, you might wonder what tea has to do with design. But it has a lot to do with it.
Imagine two gardens side by side. Two tea gardens where tea is grown…
Imagine we take the tea leaves that were picked and processed from two adjacent tea gardens and brew two pots of tea together.
We will brew the tea in two teapots of the same brand, with the same brand of water, on the same stove, and in the same way.
We'll pour one into one glass and the other into another identical teacup.
You might love one of those two cups of tea, but dislike the other.
Because, even if the same plant is picked from two neighboring gardens, there are so many factors that affect the character of the tea from the soil to the cup. Tea making is essentially that kind of process.
The timing and method of tea harvesting affect the outcome.
The number of different gardens from which the produce was collected, and the altitude at which the gardens were collected, all affect the result.
The time between collection and processing will affect the result.
Where and how the tea is stored during the time before processing will affect the result.
Then the tea undergoes a series of processes called wilting, curling, and drying.
The amount of time spent at each stage and the quantity of tea processed simultaneously will affect the outcome.
Then how it's blended and packaged affects the result.
So, from the soil to the cup, there are dozens of factors that affect the taste, aroma, color, strength, and clarity of tea.
That's why good tea is a design process. For a good tea, all these elements need to be designed correctly.
Isn't every tea we drink designed this way?
It depends on which type of tea you're drinking.
Tea is now mostly produced using an "industrial" approach.
If you're processing thousands of tons of tea and sending it to markets, and spending millions of liras on advertising to sell all that tea, you may not have the energy left to focus on designing good tea .
Your goal is to package and sell as much tea as possible, as quickly as possible. Such a large operation doesn't allow for fine designs. That's the reality of industry.
But that's not our method. Our operation isn't that big. We don't have to mass produce.
That's why we can also put thought into the design of the tea we produce.
For those who appreciate the value of good tea, we carefully select and process a specific quantity of tea, in a way we believe in, striving to create the perfect tea experience.
Good tea is a matter of design.
More people should be able to enjoy a well-designed tea.
