Exploration in the Kaçkar Mountains

Hello, I’m Alper, a nature and tea lover. In this first blog post, I would like to share my knowledge and experiences about the places to visit in the Eastern Black Sea region.

The Fascinating Nature of the Kaçkar Mountains

The Kaçkar mountain range, which borders Rize, Artvin, and Erzurum with its highest point being Kavrun Mountain (3932 meters), is a magical geography. With its diverse ecosystem, including endemic plants, glacial lakes, glaciers, monumental and ancient forests, it is a paradise to be discovered and preserved by nature enthusiasts and the entire world.

Fırtına Valley and Charming Villages

Charming villages like Çamlıhemşin Konakları, Küşüve, Makrevis, and Pogina, with their historical mansions, are worth seeing. The term "Hayat" (Life) used for the mansion’s hall highlights the cultural depth of these places. "Hayat" is the heart of a house; it is where guests are hosted, meals are eaten, children play, and the family gathers together.

Boxwood Forests and Unique Views

Boxwood Forests and Kale Plateau are unique destinations for both nature and history enthusiasts. In this area, where the historic Silk Road passed, you can visit historical structures like Kale-i Bala and enjoy the stunning views. It is also possible to reach the summit of Mount Tatos through mountaineering activities.

Verçenik and Tahpur Plateaus

Verçenik Plateau stands out with its unique hiking trails and glacial lakes. Located at an altitude of 2618 meters, you can climb to the summit of Verçenik Mountain (3711 meters) on this plateau. Tahpur Plateau, at 2995 meters, is the highest settlement in the Kaçkar Mountains. From this plateau, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the Kaçkar Mountains.

Conclusion

I’ve tried to share some of my favorite routes in the Kaçkar Mountains with you. I hope this content will be useful and enjoyable for you. See you in my next posts!
